What was the inspiration for John Lennon to write this particular song? Paul McCartney mentioned on the Beatles Anthology that John got the idea from the Mahirshi, who said that everyone has something to hide. The Monkey reference was added by John later from a cartoon done in a London music magazine depicting Yoko as a monkey on John’s back interfering with his talent and relationship with the Beatles. But this was in the late 1960s with civil unrest, wars raging, and mistrust of Government. The Cold War was still in effect and spies were everywhere....
