Cheesecake is one of my favorite dishes to make and it can be made in a variety of different ways. Here is a great recipe for pumpkin cheesecake. This cheesecake recipe can also be used for both butternut squash and sweet potato instead of pumpkin. Any season is good for cheesecake, especially during the holidays.

2/3 cup sugar

2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice (Optional: 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, ½ teaspoon ground ginger, ¼ teaspoon ground cloves)

2 eggs

One can (15 ounce) pumpkin (Optional: butternut squash or sweet potato)

1 Keebler, Ready Crust, Graham Pie Crust

Directions:

In large mixing bowl beat cream cheese and sugar on medium speed of electric mixer until fluffy or by hand. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing until combined after each addition. Stir in pumpkin. Pour into crust. Place crust on baking sheet. Bake at 350°F for about 40 minutes or until center is almost set. Cool for 1 hour on wire rack or countertop. Refrigerate at least 3 hours. Garnish as desired with any topping you prefer. Store in refrigerator and makes 10 servings.

Christmas Themes

Top Christmas Tree Theme Ideas. How to choose the best themes and decorations for your house for Christmas.

Decorating a room and choosing the right Christmas theme is the fist step. Department stores have many themes to pick from and are a great place for inspiration for your own design. Decorations are fun to do for the entire family during the Christmas holiday.

How to select the proper Christmas tree and matching decorations? To ensure the best arrangement choose a theme that you want to express for Christmas, something warm and inviting for friends and family, displays that are festive and show a jovial spirit of the Christmas holidays. A Christmas tree theme ought to tell your personality, interest, creativity, and traditions. Christmas themes can range from the traditional Christmas designs to modern-magical, visually eye-catching, lights and sounds themes.

Here are some ideas to work with and help get you started:

1. Choose the tree. Artificial Christmas trees are good and can be reused year after year. Trees come in many colors. Red, blue, green, white, and pink. Some can be flocked, topiary, tinsel, and tabletop trees. Real Christmas trees are renewable, grown on tree farms, and new seedlings are replanted. Most importantly, choose a Christmas tree that is the right size for your room.

2. Color theme, red and green, gold and green, silver and blue, white with any color, gold and red, silver and white silver, red and pink, remember that any color combination should reflect your overall theme.

3. Christmas themes. Themes should synchronized with chosen decorations. Angel themes, Santa themes, musical themes, ribbons-garlands themes, snowflakes and icicles, candy themes, sparkling-tinsel themes, stuffed animals and teddy bears themes, Victorian, French, Dutch themes.

4. Ornaments. You can match your Christmas lights and ornaments with your color theme. Collectable ornaments of glass balls, reindeer, nutcracker, sports, cartoon characters, pictures of family and friends, birds, elves, snowmen, and religious.

5. Christmas lights. From multicolor lights to white, you will need an extension cord, and correct size and placement upon Christmas tree for a harmonious display.

6. The Christmas mantel. Sparkling up the mantel is a great place to set the holiday spirit of Christmas by adding a touch of glamour. Combining silver candles and white can make a dramatic theme. Various sizes and heights of candles and stands, live plants, and similar color and themes. You can design modern and traditional themes here. Christmas stockings also make a good choice, and can be personalized and can hold all sorts of goodies over the fireplace. Christmas bells and garlands also make perfect staging for a great looking mantel for the holiday season.

7. The banister and doorways or mantels can be use to for decorating with aromatic, natural layers of fresh eucalyptus branches or pine, fills the room with a fresh, clean scent. Smartly placed cinnamon-scented pine cones add a spicy, pleasant holiday fragrance to the rooms for guest. Glass ornaments, gold berries, and a tall, sculptural reindeer can add holiday cheer and elegance to any room in the house.

Welcome family and friends to your home by ostentatiously displaying a holiday wreath for the front door. Wreaths come in many designs and themes. Choose one that shows your individuality and festive nature. With the proper Christmas accessories such as color, garlands, wreaths, lights, and ornaments, you decorate the entire home, any room into a lovely Christmas theme. Decorating both interior and exterior doesn’t have to be complex. Malls and stores have plenty of theme packs and Christmas accessories and staff to help make it easy. Winter

A poem about the winter season and the joys of the holidays.

The chill comes as the winter sun raises to meet the day

The birds come out to play

~

Small tiny snow flakes fall through the air

The trees give up their leaves without care

~

The land is covered in a sea of white

Frigid feelings of cold winter nights

~

Christmas view dancing in the cool moonlight

Luminous icicles majestically sparkling

~

Smells of cooking,

Wine drinking,

~

Sitting by the fireplace fast sleeping

Family and friends gather in the den

~

Singing of joy and magic from faithful hearts

A reminiscence of the glory and sacrifice He impart

~

Sharing elation of gifts and sounds

Winter has arrived in this infinite snow-white town

Thanksgiving Day, Recipes, And Fun Family Activities

The history of Thanksgiving, different types of menu, and family fun activities during this festive holiday.

Thanksgiving today is not just about food, family, friends, and football. To really appreciate the meaning of this festive holiday we need to remember why we are being thankful and when and where did Thanksgiving start?

The history of the American Thanksgiving starts in 1621 with the English colonist who landed in Plymouth. Known as the Pilgrims today, they celebrated with the Wampanoag Indians a three-day feast. The Pilgrims arrived in the “New World” from the Mayflower in 1620 and were part of the English colony that was seeking a better life, more religious freedom, and made mainly of “Puritans” and “Separatists” who believed King James of England had too much control on the church system.

The Plymouth colony had to endure a lot just to survive. Many Pilgrims died during the first winter of 1620. They were actually living on a huge plantation, the Pilgrims had to work hard on the land to produce a lot of food for families and live stock. The local Native Americans and Pilgrims soon became fast friends and joined together in farming and trading goods. By 1621 a large feast was made with the Wampanoag Indians to celebrate the fall season’s great harvest. A Thanksgiving was observed in honor of this. This marks the best mutual, peaceful moment with the Native Americans, and the New Englanders at this time.

In many respects, if not for the help of the Wampanoag tribe, the Plymouth colony wouldn’t have survived at all. The sympathetic Native Americans taught the Pilgrims how to plant corn, fishing techniques, hunting skills, cultivating and gathering various crops. For a long time the two groups lived peacefully and celebrated their combined efforts for a better life. For hundreds of years the message and meaning of Thanksgiving is about sharing, caring, loving, making new friendships, having sympathy for another, giving selflessly, showing acts of kindness, and mercy. Celebrating with everyone everywhere with an abundant harvest feast.

What does a traditional Thanksgiving dinner consist of? There are many different types of menu items to choose from for your Thanksgiving dinner. Here are a list of menu favorites you can try. Let’s start with the turkey. Oven roast turkey, butter, sage, parsley, basil, and thyme seasoning. Some roast turkey with rosemary, garlic, and lemon. For detailed recipes go to Reader’sdigest.com, Bonappetit.com, and Betterhomesandgarden’s.com for variations.

What are the most popular sides to go with the turkey dinner? Apple-bacon cornbread stuffing, and cornbread, sausage, and dried fruit dressing. Wild rice or white rice with gravy. Brussels sprouts, green beans, tender carrots, creamed spinach, and broccoli. Fluffy mashed potatoes with chives, sweet potatoes or candy yams with marshmallows. Romaine or spinach salad, cranberry sauce, yeast rolls, and herb rolls. Thanksgiving desserts consist of pumpkin pie with whipped cream, apple pie, pecan pie, sweet potato pie, cheesecake, pear tarts, and apple tarts. Cancer Fighting Vegetables and Fruits (Part Two)

Try eating some of these cancer fighting vegetables and fruits to prevent cancer and live a healthier diet.

Naturalist would agree that the world today is more artificial, processed, automated, computerize the ever before. The same can be said about our food and the overly convenient fast food that we love so much. Science is just beginning to understand that when the human body is not in balance with it’s local environment and ingesting the wrong kinds of food that cancer can occur more easily. Evidence links eating a diet of vegetables and fruit which are loaded with anti-toxins and anti-inflammatory properties are beneficial in preventing cancer. Here is a list of must-have cancer fighting vegetables and fruits you need to have in your house for everyday cooking and everyday living.

Citrus

Citrus includes lemons, limes, oranges, and grapefruits are a rich source of potassium, vitamin C, and anti-toxins. Citrus fruits such as these also reduce inflammation and contain citric acids which prevent fermentation of cells in effect hindering cancerous growths. Lemons have citrin that help blood flow and reduce the risk of developing cancerous digestive disorders to the stomach, mouth, and esophagus. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has discovered in their studies that grapefruit juice and other citrus greatly inhibit the cancer-causing substance known as bioflavonoids that form into carcinogens within the body promoting the development of tumors.

Broccoli and Cauliflower

Broccoli and Cauliflower are part of the plant family Brassicaceae. The Brassicaceae also includes kale, sprouts, collard greens, cabbage, and brussels. Much has been said about broccoli’s fighting power against cancer because of containing minerals like sulfur and calcium. Broccoli contains a powerful anti-cancer enzyme called sulfurophane, contains lutein, a carotenoid cancer inhibitor, and calcium which reduces the acidity in the body preventing cancerous growths. Broccoli has been found to reduce or inhibit the growth of colon and lung cancer.

Flax Seed

Flax Seed is a great source of lignans, omega-3 fatty acid, high in fiber, and contains alpha linolenic acid (ALA). Flax Seed has the highest amount of lignans that you find in other plants such as soybean, broccoli, and sesame seed. Lignans is well-known for preventing and lowering the risk of breast cancer, lung cancer, bone cancer, skin cancer, colon cancer, and pancreatic cancer. Flax Seed is an anti-inflammatory, full of antitoxins and key phytochemicals that prevent the growth of tumors. Flax Seed is also very good at lowering cholesterol, the symptoms of menopause, constipation, diabetes, and heart disease. Flax Seed is best consumed as flaxseed oil or grind down as in a coffee grinder for better absorption within the body, sprinkled on salads and pasta dishes, and mixed into bread dough is common, mixed in drinks, and mixed in morning hot cereal such as oatmeal is quite good too.

Tomato

Tomato is a fruit, part of the nightshade family or red family, and is agriculturally known as Solanum lycopersicum. Originally cultivated in South America where the Spanish conquistadors discovered the tomato in Mexico and Peru, and brought the tomato to Europe and other parts of the world due to popularity of taste. Tomatoes contain the phytochemical called lycopene which has substantial evidence that protects and reduces the risk of prostate cancer. More recent research has linked that tomatoes could also decrease the development of the endometrial, lung, and breast cancer cells. Tomatoes can be eaten raw or cooked and for the best quality of beneficial absorption use tomato paste, tomato juice, and tomato sauce to fully enjoy this powerful antitoxin.

Peppers

Peppers are a fruit and part of the Capsicum family. Peppers are a remarkable plant containing potassium, fiber, folate, vitamin B6, lycopene, and beta carotene. A green bell pepper can have two times the amount of vitamin C as an orange and even the yellow and red peppers contain 3 to 4 times the amount of vitamin C found in oranges. The benefits of eating peppers are they help reduce cholesterol levels in the body reducing the risk of stroke and heart attacks.

Peppers help to lose weight by speeding up the body’s metabolic rate and curves desire for sugary foods. Peppers have natural anti-inflammatory properties that help relieve the pain of diabetic neuropathy, psoriasis, and arthritis. Peppers can reduce stomach ulcers by killing bacteria in the digestive tract and inhibit the growth of cancerous cells by the process of cellular suicide, and preventing the spread of prostate cancer. If you crave more hotter peppers such a spicy chilies and jalapenos these two peppers also contained a great amount of antitoxins and cancer preventing properties.

Berries

Berries are small fleshy, edible brightly colored fruit that contain a good source of vitamin C and fiber. Most berries have a high content of vitamin C and are well known as a prevention of certain cancers including breast, lung, bladder, esophagus, and skin. Berries have ellagic acid and are loaded with anti-toxins that effectively obstruct specific carcinogens that promote cancer growth. Blueberries and raspberries have phenolic compounds known as anthocyanosides that hinder growth of many cancers such as leukemia, colon, and lung. Strawberries contain an assortment of phytochemicals, flavonoids, that are potent cancer killing agents and help prevent the spread of cancerous growths.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture newly added guidelines clearly state that all Americans should eat five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables daily. This is a great recommendation and should be broadcast in all forms of information outlets as much as fast food commercials inundate us daily. The alarming rate of obesity and cancer stricken patients is on the rise. After research and study on this author’s part it has become clear that many on diets seeking weight loss are ineffective on an already malnourished body. To paraphrase a favorite author of mine, Edgar Cayce, “we should focus more on quality, not just quantity, of food” and diets rich in fiber with plenty of fruits and vegetables are ideal prevention of most cancers.
